Why should I take one?
Childbirth classes are a fantastic way to learn about child birthing options, comfort measures, and what is happening within your body and your baby’s body throughout the period of childbirth. They also allow expecting parents to meet other local expecting parents, learn about childbirth, and opens the dialogue between partners regarding options and support.
During pregnancy and childbirth, your body is going through many changes. Your body changes as baby grows and more room is needed and your hormones change in response to the pregnancy and baby’s own hormones. Different hormones are needed to conceive a pregnancy, continue a pregnancy, grow the baby, cause contractions, and birth the baby. Following the birth of the baby, your body works on resuming to its pre-pregnancy state, physically and hormonally. Meanwhile, your body produces milk to nourish and grow your baby, which involves another series of physical and hormonal changes, even if you are not breastfeeding.
Being able to understand what, why, and how it is happening relieves worry, doubt, and insecurities. It can empower you to make decisions to support the type of birth you may want or need. Furthermore, it can allow you to make informed decisions in the moment, if something arises during pregnancy, labor, or birth.
Childbirth classes give parents the opportunity to get the run-down on the what, when, where, why, and how. There are a variety of types, brands, and content of childbirth classes, some of which focus on particular birthing methods or choices.
The classes that I offer are of no specific brand or type which allows me the flexibility I need to create a personalized and ever-evolving childbirth class. I am a Certified Childbirth Educator and develop my own class curriculum, based on my knowledge of birth, while personalizing it to the students within the class. My classes are ever-evolving as I continue to learn, new evidence is founded, and new recommendations are made.
